With the summer now upon us in Australia (in between showers of rain), the temperature in offices is rising. Whilst we may have air conditioning to keep us fairly cool, we also need to spare a thought for our computers and other IT equipment.
Internal temperatures of some computer components can exceed 100C, and if not located in a properly cooled environment this can rise further and cause failure of the hardware. Things like graphics cards, power supplies, processors and motherboards are especially susceptible and this time of year always results in replacing a lot of these.
It is particularly important to keep your IT equipment cooled whilst the office is closed, like overnight and over the weekends. Most offices do not switch off their servers or networking equipment, but do switch off their air conditioning, so anything left on is at risk of overheating and failing.
Please ensure you keep your computers and IT gear cool during the summer months.
